Export statistics for the first ten months of 2020

The latest statistics on Italian stone industry exports are available to all member companies.

In October 2020 Italy’s exports of raw stone products were still suffering but slightly recouping. In fact, in the first ten months of 2020 total exports by the Italian stone materials industry had dropped by 19.4% from the same period the previous year, while Italy’s exports of “blocks” decreased by 35.7% compared to the -37.4% in September. China remained the top buyer of raw Italian stones but reduced its imports by 39.9% while India, in second place, cut its purchases from Italy by more than 61.5%,.

In the same period the worth of Italy’s exports of slabs and finished products fell by 14.3%. In detail, its exports of finished and semi-finished stone products were down by 18.4% to the US, by 5.8% to Switzerland, and by 29.5% to France, while they increased by 11.2% to Germany, by more than 97% to Saudi Arabia and by 29.5% to Qatar.

Italy’s exports of stone-working machinery and equipment were up somewhat from the figures registered in the second and third quarters of 2020. In the first ten months the value of Italian exports of machines, tools and other equipment to work natural stones dropped by 15.8% from the same period the previous year but showed a slight uptake compared to the -17.5% in the third quarter. If we look at the top ten buyers of Italian stone technology, exports increased by 119.1% to Egypt, 587% to Uzbekistan, and 29% to Russia while they fell by 2.4% to the US, by 6% to Spain, by 35.7% to Germany, by 26.6% to Poland, by 11.7% to France, by 49.9% to Portugal and by 48.5% to the United Kingdom. Following on the top ten, China’s purchases decreased by 1.6% and sales to India by 70.1%.
