STONE MACHINERY Safety: Type C standards in effect

CONFINDUSTRIA MARMMOMACCHINE is heavily committed to technical standardization work regarding the safety of “Machinery and Installations for Working Natural Stones”, also through holding the European Convenorship of the CEN TC 151’s WG11.

Thanks to the association’s constant supervision of this CEN technical committee, we remind readers that, through time, numerous Type C harmonized standards have been produced that define the essential safety requisites for the following types of machines for working natural stones:

  • EN 15162:2008 | Machines and plants for mining and tooling of natural stone – Safety – Requirements for gang saws;
  • EN 15164:2008 | Machines and plants for mining and tooling of natural stone – Safety – Requirements for chain and belt-slotting machines;
  • EN 15572:2015 | Machines and plants for mining and tooling of natural stone – Safety – Requirements for edge finishing machines;
  • EN 15571:2020 | Machines and plants for mining and tooling of natural stone – Safety – Requirements for surface-finishing machines;
  • EN 16564:2020 | Machines and plants for mining and tooling of natural stone – Safety – Requirements for bridge type sawing/milling machines, included numerical control (NC/CNC) versions;
  • EN 15163-1:2022 | Machines and installations for the exploitation and processing of natural stone – Safety – Part 1: Requirements for stationary diamond wire saws;
  • EN 15163-2:2022 | Machines and installations for the exploitation and processing of natural stone – Safety – Part 2: Requirements for transportable diamond wire saws:

All these standards were cited in the Official Journal of the European Union and are therefore harmonized standards officially in force.

The association’s standardizing work – translated into finalization of the important “corpus” of Technical Standards listed above – is carried out thanks also to the contribution of the Machine Technical Commission, in which participate the technical managers of the member companies that belong to it, supporting its work and the expert consultancies activated in particular through technical partnership with MECCANO.

Currently, the following member companies belong to the CONFINDUSTRIA MARMOMACCHINE Machine Technical Commission:

APUANIA CORSI | BENETTI MACCHINE | BIESSE | CMS | CO.B.A.L.M. | COMANDULLI COSTRUZIONI MECCANICHE | DAZZINI | DENVER | DONATONI MACCHINE | GMM | INDUSTRIE MONTANARI DIV. EMMEDUE | LOCHTMANS | MARINI QUARRIES GROUP | MARMO MECCANICA | PEDRINI | PELLEGRINI MECCANICA | PRUSSIANI | SIMEC |

In light of recent approval of the new Machine Regulations – which will take effect for makers as of January 20, 2027 – CEN has already asked for a “gap analysis” of the requisites for the standards currently in force, and therefore the association’s technical commission will be involved in this analysis, also in prevision of a future adjustment/revision of the standards it deals with.
