CONFINDUSTRIA and the unions together in solidarity for Emilia-Romagna, with a common fund

Activation of a “Fund to aid the people of Emilia-Romagna” based on voluntary contributions from employees equal to an hour’s pay and an equivalent sum from employers. This was the fund-raising project announced by CONFINDUSTRIA and trade unions CGIL, CISL and UIL – and in which CONFINDUSTRIA MARMOMACCHINE participates – after the devastating floods that hit the Emilia-Romagna region.

In a joint communiqué the confederation of Italian industries and the three trade unions expressed their condolences to and utmost solidarity with these hard-hit populations, deciding to jointly make “a concrete commitment and to support a combined project to help the citizens, workers and production system so deeply afflicted”.

CONFINDUSTRIA and CGIL, CISL and UIL – the communication reads – will make a prompt appraisal of aid methods, in the ways and forms that guarantee the certainty of their destinations and their quickest utilization.

As we go to press, we have learned that, in the cabinet meeting of May 23, the Italian government approved the law decree on the flood emergency with an initial package of 2 billion euros to aid the territories devastated by the flooding, already reckoning with the need to intervene again once the magnitude of the damage – expected to amount to several billion euros – has been appraised.
